At We Are Future Builders, our mission is to provide children in need with their own lego sets - a toy that not only allows them to play and have fun, but to build creativity and confidence.
We Are Future Builders was started by high school student Harrison Reese at the age of 13 out of a desire to make sure all children have access to quality toys regardless of their circumstances:
"I have loved playing with Legos since I was in nursery school.
Even now, as a high school student, I enjoy building Lego sports cars and complex sets. Legos can appeal to every kind of brain,
and can challenge us to think differently.
Legos, like most quality toys, are not cheap. For families who do not have a lot of money, a toy like a Lego set can be an unaffordable luxury. This doesn’t feel fair to me.
So, this is where We Are Future Builders comes in.
We recycle donated loose lego pieces and add them to mini sets to make a lego kit that allows a child to play beyond the instruction guide, building their creativity and their potential."
We Are Future Builders kits have been distributed to children experiencing challenging circumstances on five continents, in countries including Guatemala, Syria, and Tanzania. A bit closer to home, our kits have been distributed to children in need inChicago, Midcoast Maine, and the Greater Portland, Maine area.
